The Western High-Speed Diameter highway (WHSD) is a major investment project implemented in St. Petersburg and is a successful example of international cooperation, where the Italian-Turkish company ICA became the main contractor for the construction of the central section. WHSD is an example of public-private partnership in the field of road construction.

For St. Petersburg, the WHSD is a unique project which has solved several of the city’s transport problems, most importantly easing high congestion in the Vasilievsky and Central districts, as well as connecting the northern and southern districts of St. Petersburg.
